The Laughing哥’s effect

It is really interesting to see “Laughing哥”, one of the main characters of the recent late TV drama show “學警狙擊”, suddenly becomes extremely popular among the HK online communities.

The late TV drama show is actually just an old-style police and undercover story like Infernal Affairs. “Laughing哥” is one of the top triad society member but he is actually an undercover sent by the police 9 years ago.

I’d say the actor 謝天華 is doing a good job, but I think he won’t anticipate his acting will raise such attention on the web (or maybe even the society). My friend send me the link of the “Laughing哥” Facebook group yesterday in the afternoon, at that time there were around 40000 members. When I checked it again today, there are already more than 85000 members. The group members posted various posts for memorizing this character, who died in the show last night. Some is also suggesting that the actor 謝天華should be awarded in the coming TVB award ceremony.

Although I personally like this character for some reason, I am still shocked by the growth of his supporters online. No matter what is the reason behind (maybe people find it interesting to support an imaginary drama star. I do know some girls who think this character is a really ideal lover for them), the viral effect of “Laughing哥” won’t be understated. Maybe the succeed of “Laughing哥” represents our own HK style online culture…
