When Google released their brand new browser Chrome, what makes it outstanding among other browsers is its new JavaScript engine, V8. You can see how V8 improves the JavaScript performance from the official Google Chrome releases comics by Scott McCloud.
The JavaScript engine competition does not stop there. The coming Firefox 3.1 will use a new JavaScript engine, called TraceMonkey. TraceMonkey is actually descendant of SpiderMonkey, which is currently used by all versions of Firefox browsers. You can find out more about TraceMonkey from the lifehacker article: Why TraceMonkey is Going to Blow Your Web Browsing Mind.
Again, I wouldn’t say which browser is better than the others just because of a JavaScript performance test (though I don’t really like IE), the key point is: let the competition continues!!
